Beginners?! Wow!

These students started at my studio about three months ago. First time potters! This is what happens when you let your inhibitions go! You can do it too! Come and give it a try?

Loading and firing the kiln!

It’s so exciting to load the kiln. It holds all the students’ energy in the pieces they have created… Looks like foxy foxy is sitting right up front too!

Loading and firing the kiln!

This firing goes up to 960 degrees at a rate of 100 degrees an hour. Looks like it will reach temperature at about midnight tonight…So it should switch off at around 1 am! Then I will only be able to open the kiln when it has cooled down to below 100 degrees. Which will probably be tomorrow evening. I can’t wait!

Loving Every Little Detail!

This pattern was very carefully carved out of a leather hard piece. Then it was bisque fired, and 3 coats of glaze were hand painted onto each and every little piece! It was then fired a second time.

Blue bowl with lace pattern

This lace pattern was done using sgraffito. The bowl was painted with glaze but before it was fired the pattern was very carefully scratched out. Then it was fired to 1200 degrees. Beautiful. Well done!
